Wheatgrass

I was told that wheatgrass has lots of nutrition and is good for health. Being naive and curious caused me to try it out. At least the green part of it looks nice on my table.

I started out by going to the Pure Health Wellness Centre at Sri Hartamas to get the starter kit. Here is the address :

Wheatgrass seeds : RM10.90
Composit Soil : RM6.00
Tray : RM15.00

The seeds can last for 5 times of planting, meaning each time, you only use 200g.
The soil however can last only for 2.5 times of planting.

The process is easy and fun.

1. Soak 200g of wheatgrass seeds for not more than 12 hours. Change the water in intervals of 4 hours.
2. Throw off the water. Rince with clean water every 12 hours, for the next 24 hours.
3. Arrange the seeds onto a layer of soil, approx 1 inch thick. Make sure the seeds are not on top of each other.
4. Cover to protect from direct sunlight, for 2 days. Water in between.
5. By day 4, hoolahhh.....this is what I get :

 DAY 4 morning

 DAY 4 evening

 DAY 4 evening

 DAY 5 evening

 DAY 5 evening

 DAY 7 - success

DAY 11 - time to harvest

DAY 11 - time to harvest

Harvesting after 30 days - hahahaha

I thought it will continue to grow, but it did not. So, I threw it away

It's easy to throw, just roll it like carpet

Into the rubbish bin

Good to start new again

A gentle caution though, for beginners. This plant attracts a lot, yeah...I mean A LOT...of fruit flies. I've killed easily about 100 during the one month duration.

And one more thing, this wheatgrass is supposed to regrow after harvesting, approx on day 10. But due to overgrowth, I guess, the shoots did not regrow.

Happy planting people!
